The Power of Positive (subliminal) Thinking

We love Becca Levy, PhD, assoc. professor and Director of the Social & Behavioral Science Division at Yale – whose recent study showed that older people exposed to positive subliminal messages about aging demonstrated improved ideas of aging, stronger self-perception and even improved physical functioning.

The study involved 100 older adults, aged 61-99 – those shown positive messages like “creative” which flashed by too fast for conscious awareness, improved their balance and other improvements, both physical and psychological.  Add to that a stronger self-perception of aging and less negative stereotypes about aging – it’s a step away from the negative stereotypes that we get in conversations, advertising and other media depictions of older adults.
